Hi, I'm Dr. Moshe Roth. I practice at Family Eye Care in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
How can we help treat myopia?
The number one thing, the most important thing that you can do is to schedule an exam with the developmental optometrist or behavioral optometrist, as soon as possible.
Again, that's a developmental optometrist, not a pediatric ophthalmologist. Pediatric ophthalmologist are expert in surgical and disease processes. They're not experts in myopia or other vision problems. Typically pediatricians refer to pediatric ophthalmologist. Undetected. Myopia can cause many complications, whether it's academic or social or emotional early diagnosis of myopia and other eye problems can improve your child's performance, both in school and on the sports field, it can prevent serious eye robbing disease later on in life. If your child is diagnosed with myopia, we can help slows progression with myopia management and sometimes even reverse the process.
We work closely with each family to customized a treatment program for each child based on their unique needs. If you're concerned that your child is becoming near-sighted because parents are nearsighted, or the near sightedness is progressing and each year the prescription becomes worse and worse, then schedule an assessment for myopia management. It can be life changing.
